You can enter the taproom from the street level – look for the door to the right of the steps leading up to the main entrance. Housed in the old St. Paul's German Evangelical Protestant Church at 1429 Race St., the 220-seat space featured 46-foot ceilings and a large chandelier, high, arch windows, lots of dark wood and Rookwood tiles – more than 25,000 of them. Reasons cited for the closure included the coronavirus pandemic, a significant decline in tourism, and large increases in material goods costs. Nellie's Key lime wheat beer sounded gimmicky but it was tastefully made, the key lime just one flavor note in many. My friend loved the coconut brown ale, which tastes of its main flavor ingredient much more strongly.

In 2011 things changed for the Old St Paul’s German Evangelical Protestant Church… it had been scheduled for demolition and was saved by 3CDC in an attempt to save the historic building that dates back to 1850. It wasn’t long after that the Brewer Kevin Moreland from Listermann/Triple Digit stepped in and decided the space would be perfect to complete his dream of opening his own brewpub.
